habitkitchen cabinetsIt can be made to any dimension you want, but if you're buying stock or semi-custom cabinets, either pre-assembled or RTA (ready to assemble), you'll have to choose from the standard dimensions that almost all manufacturers follow.
This is not usually a problem as the cabinets come in an impressive variety of storage sizes and a variety of panels and accessories can be used to fill almost any space. Standardized cabinet sizes are anything but restrictive. Instead, standardized cabinet heights, depths, and most importantly, widths make kitchen design a lot easier because space is predictable.
Base cabinets, wall cabinets and special tall cabinets have their own range of standard sizes. When choosing a size for base cabinets, remember that sizes run from the bottom to the top of the cabinet box. Heights do not include the thickness of the countertop that sits on top of the lower cabinets.

Height, depth and width of the kitchen cabinet
Installed directly on the floor,low kitchen cabinetsThey are the workhorses of kitchen design. Countertops are placed on them, sinks are installed in them, dishwashers and stoves are clamped, and pots and pans are stored in them. The low cupboards in the kitchen seem to be able to do everything.
Kitchen base cabinets are the most expensive of all kitchen cabinets, and for good reason: we ask a lot of them. Low kitchen cabinets also help shape the layout of the kitchen.
When buying semi-finished or pre-assembled cabinets from stock or RTA, kitchen base cabinets are usually available in these dimensions:

kitchen cabinet height
The height of the kitchen base cabinet is the least variable dimension. Virtually all base cabinets ship from the factory with a height of 34 1/2 inches, although exceptions can be made for users with disabilities and others who require other heights.
Building codes and accepted design practices emphasize accessibility, and the wrong height is the only thing that can make a vanity cabinet inaccessible. If different heights are required, e.g. in a kitchen for a wheelchair user, cabinets usually have to be custom made for different heights.
AfterAdding a countertop, the finished height of most base cabinets is between 35 and 36 inches depending on the countertop material. The height is flexible. For example, Dupont allows 1/2-inch Corian to be installed directly onto a support frame without a continuous foundation. Adding a base could add another 1/2 inch to the height.
It is often said that worktops have to adapt to the user. Due to individual requirements, countertops are sometimes 32" and 38" high, but these heights require custom manufacturing.

Taller people may appreciate taller cabinets: You can increase the height of standard cabinets by using a custom box frame that can be covered with a stand and a ledge out of the way.
Kitchen cabinet depth
The depth dimension for kitchen base cabinets is measured from the outer front edge of the cabinet to the wall.
Standard base cabinets are generally 24 inches deep (not countingoverhang of the countertop). Deeper base cabinets make it difficult for you to reach behind the counter or plug in devices. If you've ever had trouble locating objects in ablind corner(where two cabinets meet at right angles), you'll know how quickly distances over 24 inches become difficult.
Because countertops typically overlap base cabinets at the front, the overall depth (with countertop) typically measures 25-26 inches, depending on trim details.
12-, 15-, and 18-inch deep cabinets are also available for special circumstances, although not all manufacturers stock them.

The width of the base cabinet is the big variable, and each cabinet is usually designed for specific purposes. Widths typically range from 9" to 48" in 3" increments and are chosen to both meet space requirements and provide specific functionality:

Common closet heights are 12, 36, and 42 inches. In standard kitchens, wall cabinets are typically 30 or 36 inches high, with the space above enclosed by soffits.
When closets are ceiling-to-ceiling, 48-inch closets are the logical choice.
A 12 or 15 inch tall closet fits well over a refrigerator. This creates a narrow gap between the refrigerator and the bottom of the cabinet. The top of the cabinet usually touches and attaches to the kitchen ceiling.
Kitchen closet depth
The maximum depth for wall cabinets is 24 inches as it cannot exceed the depth of base cabinets, but shallower cabinets are more common to maximize countertop workspace.

Also, shallower cabinets are more secure to attach to walls. Deep cabinets, especially when cluttered with dishes and groceries, can fall off the walls.

Wall cabinets above the fridge are the only exception to the informal rule that wall cabinets should be flat. Due to the depth of most refrigerators (24 to 36 inches deep), wall cabinets placed above the refrigerators should be the same depth, or at least close together. Therefore, a 24 inch deep cabinet is standard.
